Voting For Consolidation

I heard a rumor that there could be a county wide vote on the decision for consolidation . Is that even possible??? If so what would have to happen for that to come about ?

Re: Voting For Consolidation

I think a referendum has to be sent to and approved by the General Assembly in order to be placed on the ballot.

I don't know if they could hold a special election for a referendum or if they would have to wait until a normal November election cycle.

I believe Wise County needs to lay out every specific fact on what they are going to do before they take a county wide vote. This would be an emotional vote for a lot of people so who knows what the result would be.

Just judging the board make up right now, it seems that the county would likely vote in favor of a consolidation plan if it was decently planned out.
It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.

if we do not have the money for consolidation then we surely do not have the money for renovations.

Facts are facts- that is how the schools got in this shape. We spent the money on more imp things. This looks like a bad time to try to raise cash. Under Basham we went from 54 mil for renovations/ closure in Jan of one year to needing to close a school and buy mobile homes in June (after spending millions on plans, wonder who's company got that contract?). The funds haven't changed that much. The schools need fixed, but we can't wish it done.

How much did we spend on PVPS last year? 1/2 a high school?

Re: Voting For Consolidation

IMHO if WIse Co. plans on starting this in the next year or 2 they will be squezzed big time money wise....If it goes past that point you will see the Co. take out Bonds to cover this and you will in all honisty see a property tax hike.........That being said if the dission is to repair the schools you will also see a property tax hike........

However if the plan is to commion a new study then there is probably enough money avalabe to do that without a tax hike

We will look for money? The plans to renovate the schools, 3 of them, a couple years ago cost MILLIONS. Even formermemberwhowedontdiscussanymore said if it was close to fair, you wouldn't have as many people against this. That same board, turned down an offer to fix Appy's electricial wiring. A contractor was gonna do this for free, the company was insured and bonded. Without even talking about it. Most of that board is gone, maybe more sane minds will rule this time.
